Simulation methodology for the identification of critical operating conditions of planetary journal bearings in wind turbines

Abstract The usage of journal bearings as planetary in wind turbines instead roller has become more common recent years. Their is advantageous, due to smaller installation space needed compared allowing for higher power densities turbine drive trains. However, this technology presents a challenge since there currently no standardized approach the design regarding wear. Due varying speeds and dynamic operating events large variation loads be considered process bearing turbines. This paper introduces method identify conditions using simulation tool chain, which couples multi body (MBS) model with an elasto-hydrodynamic (EHD) bearing.
